Salvation from the net

SOUTHEAST ASIA
An ACP branch in South East Asia is committed to spreading the gospel. Its main tool is the internet - with success.

Sharing the good news via social media has advantages. Above all, both the sender and the interested recipient can keep a low profile. Only when sincere interest is established can both emerge from anonymity into an open exchange. This is why online platforms are particularly suitable for reaching people from Muslim nations with the gospel.

An ACP branch in South East Asia is involved in this area. Our eight regional partners, most of whom have a Muslim background themselves, make Jesus Christ known in the regional languages: Indonesian, Malay, Tagalog, Urdu, Hindi, Malayalam, Bengali, but also English. ‘By specifically following up on comments, feedback and questions about our posts, we reach people who are searching for the truth on YouTube, Facebook or Twitter,’ says our programme manager.

Growing participation
Another advantage of social media is that the number of interactions provides an indication of the impact of the posts. In 2024, we gained a total of 12,871 new subscribers. This corresponds to 85 interactions per month and 20 per week for all local partners combined. A significant increase was recorded in Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and India. The number of subscribers increased in Bangladesh, although partner J. was often without internet during the summer months due to political unrest.

Leading to faith step by step
The increase in personnel in Pakistan has led to an increase in interactions on Facebook. A new, step-by-step strategy is to ensure even greater engagement. First, the necessity of the gospel is explained. Then God's plan of salvation is explained in a way that is relevant to Muslims. Finally, the person is led to a decision to accept Christ as their personal saviour.

‘Many followers of Islam are hungry for the bread of life,’ reports the programme manager. Another task of the local partners is to refer the people who come to Christ to local churches, where they learn discipleship and find a sustainable network of relationships.
