Unconditional Love

BULGARIA
“Winning Muslims for Christ”: Under this title, two ACP partners organized a seminar in Bulgaria. Around 80 participants from Eastern Europe were encouraged and newly motivated.

The speakers, all of whom had a Muslim background themselves, shared their own experiences. Theological and historical aspects of the relationship between Islam and Christianity were also discussed. One speaker, who has been working in the Balkans for many years, spoke about the challenges women face in Islam and the specific pastoral care of women with a Muslim background.

The truth convinces

Our partner Aron*, the main organizer of the seminar, reported how Jesus had appeared to him in a vision. This encounter with God healed the former Muslim from depression and suicidal thoughts. Since then, it has been Aron's heartfelt desire to share his hope with other Muslims.

The story of a mayor is also moving. When his son became seriously ill, he discovered that he could expect no help from Islam. However, this triggered his search for the truth. He found it in Jesus, whereupon he, his wife, and his entire family became Christians. Shortly thereafter, the local imam knocked on his door and urged him to return to Islam. The mayor categorically refused. His steadfastness caused the entire village community—including the imam—to come to faith in Christ.

Powerless rituals

“The conference was very useful,” reports one participant. “I have been working with Muslims for a long time. Nevertheless, I learned a lot of new things that are helpful in answering frequently asked questions.” A Bulgarian pastor says, “The conference helped me to recognize where I stand myself – in my conversations, in my patience, in my love for others.”

“I can now see the fundamental differences between Christianity and Islam more clearly,” is the personal conclusion of another participant. -- Muslims perform rituals as if their salvation depended on them. For Christians, however, it is Jesus alone who grants complete salvation through his death on the cross. And while Islam tries to conquer the world through violence and control, Christ triumphs through unconditional love. --

Steps into the future

The unity brought about by the Holy Spirit and the practical experience of the leadership team were greatly appreciated. Many new ideas and visions for outreach to Muslims emerged. The conference was an important step in this direction.
