When God Touches the Heart

LEBANON
“We are facing a large number of internally displaced persons,” reports Georges. Our Lebanese partner and his church are helping many people who have been stranded in their area.

As early as 2023/24, thousands arrived in the area where our Lebanese partner is based. After the conflict with Israel ended, many displaced people returned to their homes, but many others remained. When Israel resumed its attacks on Hezbollah in southern Lebanon this year, many fled once again to the Bekaa Valley. Following the ceasefire, many people moved back into their undamaged homes, while others, whose homes had been destroyed, remained.

The need is great

Food, hygiene products, and clothing are among the most urgent needs of the internally displaced persons. Furthermore, our partner's emergency aid focuses on the often difficult procurement of medications for heart disease, diabetes, or epilepsy, as well as diapers and special formula for newborns. In an emergency shelter, he installed a washing machine and a water heater for families.

Spiritual Nourishment

“The main goal of our visits, however, is not only to provide material aid but also to share the Gospel. We give Bibles to adults and children. After distributing meals, we proclaim the Good News, and there is a time of worship,” reports Pastor Georges.

“A Unique Book”

Pastor Georges' family also helped a woman with pregnancy complications whose husband is a soldier in the Lebanese Army. The couple also has a son and a daughter. “During our visit, the woman told us she had finished reading the New Testament and said in front of her entire family: ‘The Bible is a unique book. The stories about Jesus' life are very easy to read. A twelve-year-old can understand them, just as much as a mature adult.'” This family allows their son to read the illustrated children's Bible.

Tears of Hope

Refugee Mahmoud and his wife have since returned to their home region of Baalbek. “They're hoping to have a child, and before they left, we prayed together that God would grant them one. After the prayer, Mahmoud had tears in his eyes. When we asked him why he was crying, he said, ‘The words of the Gospel and the prayer penetrate the heart and bring comfort.'”
