Where New Life Is Growing
Today, 30 families live in the Nehemia settlement in southern Mali; their home villages were destroyed in terrorist attacks. Since their resettlement, the residents have experienced a radical change in their living conditions. They now benefit from a safer environment, access to basic infrastructure, and pastoral care. After months on the run, these people are once again experiencing order, peace, and mutual support in adequate housing.
Self-Reliance and Dignity
At the beginning, the displaced people received not only housing but also temporary food aid. Meanwhile, many families now provide for themselves. Agricultural, cooperative, and small-scale commercial activities are gradually enabling them to achieve economic self-sufficiency. This development is more than just a practical success—it means dignity.
Daily life in the village revolves around work in the communal fields. Early in the morning, men and women head out to the gardens together. Tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and other vegetables grow here. The harvest ensures the families' food supply—and at the same time strengthens their sense of community. In addition, some residents engage in trade or raise small animals such as chickens and goats. The products are sold at local markets or traded with neighboring villages. This creates additional sources of income and a healthy, diversified economic foundation.
An Unstoppable Future
Sunday is a fixed anchor in the weekly rhythm. That's when the village community gathers for worship. Prayer, praise, and listening together to God's Word provide stability and hope. The small village church is a place that welcomes young and old alike. Faith is strengthened, giving strength for everyday life.
Many children live in the settlement. In Sunday school, they hear Bible stories adapted to their age group. These times not only shape their faith but also foster community and trust among the younger generation. The village community has been particularly moved recently by the birth of four babies. They symbolize the future, life—and hope in the midst of a country marked by violence. These new beginnings are seen as a blessing and celebrated together.
Transparency and Shared Responsibility
The village is governed by an administrative committee in which representatives of the families and staff members of ACP Néhémie Mali work together. The committee ensures orderly operations, the fair distribution of resources, and the resolution of conflicts.
Despite this positive development, the situation in the country remains tense. Jihadist attacks shape daily life in many regions of Mali and place the population under immense pressure. This makes it all the more important to support the people in the Nehemia settlement and the local staff through prayer and to ask for God's protection and peace.
