Where every help counts

MOLDOVA
Several times a year, friends of ACP decide to accompany us to Moldova and lend a hand in our projects. They usually come back spiritually enriched.

A young resident of our home for the disabled used to live in the rubbish dump. It was very difficult for him in the first few years in the home. But then he came to know Jesus and this changed him fundamentally. Experiencing how people are pulled up from such abysses by the love of God is always a powerful experience for the participants in our outreaches.

The mother of two girls from our home for the disabled was dying. And in a hut that was completely empty. She owned nothing. A few days earlier, her neighbours had taken her in and offered her their own bed. Our team brought her a bed with pillows, duvet and covers (picture left). So she was able to spend her last days on earth in her own clean bed.

This autumn, our team once again visited many families and single people. They learnt about people's suffering, listened, encouraged and prayed. This included a couple living in extreme poverty. They work six days a week for low pay and their three children are often alone. On Sunday, their only family day, the washing has to be done by hand. We surprised this family with a brand new washing machine (pictured right). They had wanted one, but the chances of buying one were nil. The people were overwhelmed. Even after an hour, they still couldn't believe their eyes.

Those who come to Moldova have many opportunities to help: in the old people's home for the destitute, in the bakery that delivers 800 loaves of bread to the needy every day, in the ‘kids feeding programme’, where 200 children receive their only warm meal of the day, in the repair of houses and gardens for our ‘move a family’ project, in the distribution of food and firewood to people who have to get through the winter far below the subsistence level.
