Emergency Relief with Lasting Impact
“It's now 1:30 in the morning. We've been on the road since last night. We're stuck in the floods with more than 300 vehicles.” This is how ACP staff member Pastor Joseph describes the situation as Tropical Storm Ditwah floods large parts of Sri Lanka on November 28, 2025. “The situation is extremely serious and continues to worsen; many areas are completely underwater. People cannot sleep and cannot return to their homes. Please pray for Sri Lanka. This is an unprecedented situation in our history!”
Emergency aid…
Prayer is followed by action. In the commercial kitchen of the ACP Training Center, Christians are preparing hot meals. Volunteers from numerous churches are distributing more than 1,000 food packages, each of which can feed a family for two weeks. Among those receiving aid are about 400 affected church families and nearly twice as many families who do not yet know the Christian faith.
… and long-term support
In the meantime, the situation has calmed down. Cleanup efforts are largely complete; now it is time for reconstruction. Roads, bridges, and rail lines were buried by mudslides or washed away by floodwaters. Thousands of homes have been completely destroyed. The bereaved are mourning deceased relatives and friends.
Conversations with a Vision
The tropical storm struck Sri Lanka while many churches on the island nation were preparing for the Christmas season with a proven project: The church members had resolved to give five tracts each to selected individuals during Advent.
One tract was to go to a relative, one to a neighbor, one to a friend, and one to an acquaintance. The fifth tract was for a stranger. The encounters were not to happen by chance, but were to be prepared in prayer and accompanied by a conversation. In just a few minutes, they wanted to explain what their lives had been like without God, how Jesus had found them, and how He was now changing their lives. Despite the severe weather, the project was carried out, and thousands held a tract in their hands even before Christmas—a tract that, in the midst of the disaster, points to hope in Christ.
