A Room in City Hall

UKRAINE
Our partners in the Ukrainian city of Lyuboml, just a few kilometres from the Polish border, have been given their own room in the town hall by the mayor of their city.

Our partners in Ukraine proudly showed us around their premises. Then came a surprise that moved us deeply: the mayor of their town had allocated them a room in the city hall!

This room is much more than just an office. It has become a place of refuge for people who have had to leave their homes behind. Here, the so-called ‘resettlers’ not only find a roof over their heads, but also open ears and hearts. Our partners take the time to offer pastoral care, pray with people and support them in their time of need. Alongside this, they provide practical help such as clothing, food and everyday necessities. Every step, every helping hand conveys to those in need: you are not alone, you are seen.

We were particularly impressed by the atmosphere in the city. When we spoke to the mayor in front of the city hall, the atmosphere was very friendly. People kept stopping to greet him, and he greeted them back – not reservedly, but warmly and approachably. We were struck by this sense of community between the government and the people, as it is a strong sign of solidarity at a time when war and uncertainty shape everyday life in the country.

We are convinced that God is at work in Lyuboml. The fact that a space for humanitarian and spiritual help has been opened in the heart of the city is more than just an organisational solution – it is a visible testimony to His grace. We are grateful that we are able to make a difference in this place together with our partners, and we pray that the doors of the city hall will remain open for a long while to come.
