In need of help, but rich
At the beginning of the year, our team distributes sweets and evangelistic calendars in the streets of Athens and talks to the people about the Good News. This year, however, there was nothing sweet to hand out, so they came up with the idea of baking little plaits. Not only members of the team were involved in the baking work, but also the refugees living in the ACP Hellas building. Someone kneaded, another plaited and yet another person brushed the dough with egg. And so - to their own astonishment - over 100 beautiful little plaits were created, even though no-one had any experience with them to begin with.
While packing, one of the refugees, who had become a Christian, said that he couldn't understand why the refugees should give something to the Greeks when the former were in need of help and the latter had what they needed.
That was the cue for team leader Laura (pictured left). She interjected: ‘Yes, they are missing something too, and that is hope. That's what we have to give them.’ This statement led to an intense conversation about the fact that we all have something to give. This was followed by silence - each and every one of us dwelled on our own thoughts until one of the refugees said: ‘You're right, we have something to give them’. An evangelistic campaign for the Greeks turned into an important lesson for the Christians.
