Drought and military conflicts have hit the Somali civilian population hard. There has been no rain for more than two years. Those who are able to do so are fleeing and seeking help in refugee camps. This is also the case in a complex of four camps in Dadaab, Kenya.
However, tens of thousands of refugees without supplies are also living outside these camps. Here, ACP Rwanda, together with local staff, operates a simple supply system and distributes up to 1,000 hot meals to Somalis every day.
Our project is heavily dependent on local authorities. And they are currently putting obstacles in the way of our work. Since UN aid was cut, their sources of income have decreased. That is why they are trying to profit from our commitment as well.
Our team is now fasting for two weeks. They are asking for specific instructions on how to continue their work or how to remove the obstacles.
