Discontent Without Bloodshed
ACP is very active in Tanzania with various projects. Among other things, we support the establishment of Christian communities, do social and evangelistic work among the Maasai, run a children's village, and operate a home for orphans. The country is currently in a precarious situation. As our Tanzanian partner reports, elections were held at the end of October and many young people took to the streets. They protested that the current head of government does not want to step down. She is the former vice president of the previous president, who died in 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic. She is accused of manipulating election results to maintain her power.
This has caused discontent among many young people. They took to the streets, but their peaceful demonstrations were violently suppressed. Many people were killed. Sources from within the country report that snipers were deliberately deployed. This caused a great shock in Tanzanian society.
However, the young people announced that they would not accept this and would return, no matter what weapons and violence the government used against them. This renewed demonstration is planned for December 9th. The whole country is watching this day with trepidation.
