Church, Restricted

TURKMENISTAN
We are continually impressed by the attitude of our partners in Turkmenistan. Despite severe restrictions, they remain in the country and bear spiritual responsibility. They need our prayers.

Turkmenistan is considered a culturally rich and scenically beautiful country. But the situation is very challenging. High unemployment is forcing many young people to leave the country. Those who remain are mainly elderly people and children.

In our partners' church, too, the tasks are shouldered by just a few people. Many members work to their limits to feed their families. This often leaves them with no energy or time to get involved in the church.

Unfortunately, foreign pastors are not allowed to enter the country to encourage the church. Anyone entering on a tourist visa is not allowed to attend church services.

Nevertheless, there is hope. At Christmas, the small church celebrated a special service together with four other denominations. A simple meeting space was created in the unfinished building. Building materials gave way to chairs, and a ring light provided illumination. Our partner Pastor B. reports: “It was a strong sign of unity and hope. We believe that God can open doors where people see no possibilities.”

We pray ...
for success in the continued construction of the church building,
for protection and provision for the families in the church,
that foreign pastors will be allowed to attend church services.
