Bulgaria

Joining the EU does not automatically solve a country's problems. Since the currency switched from the Bulgarian lev to the euro, prices have skyrocketed. Wages are not rising in line with the increased cost of living, and as a result, the number of »working poor«—people who cannot cover their living expenses with their low wages—is growing. They often find themselves in precarious housing situations.

THE NAME SAYS IT ALL
The «Center for Change» offers supported housing for people in the working poor category—those who, despite having a job, cannot afford housing due to very low wages. Here, they find shelter and practical and administrative support to help them reintegrate into society.
SECONDHAND AS OPPORTUNITY
Some of our clothing donations find a place in second-hand stores in various parts of Bulgaria. The local population can shop there at reasonable prices. The proceeds are used to finance ACP projects among persecuted Christians. In this way, second-hand clothes are an important part of our work.
